In fact it’s easy to find many articles about Prepping, with many including some mention of battery storage or other more ‘exotic’forms of energy storage, like compressed air, salt based heat storage, heated water storage and re-use, etc.

It’s always good to get a couple of 3rd party references when looking at energy storage these days, as  next generation solutions like Electrovaya.com  hit the market and fundamentally change the way we take advantage of the higher power density and 100% safety or these “green production”  lithium ion solutions from Electrovaya.

TESLA: THE ENERGY STORAGE “FUD MISSILE” OR “MARKETING SPINMEISTER?”

Aside from all the excitement in the press about the Tesla GigaAmp Hour Factory ( the annual production measure) in Nevada, the fact is you and I will not see any Telsa batteries in consumer hands until late 2016  or early 2017. That said,  Electrovaya’s GigaAmp Hour Factory has been producing since October 2015 in Germany (via their Evonik acquisition and  recent retrofit of Litarion), with another factory scheduled to come online by the time Tesla ships its first production.

Hmmm, maybe like Tesla is engaging in market stall tactics with marketing spins about sexy packaging and low prices to buy time by stalling end user purchases? Hopefully partners and end users/consumers will give Electrovaya a look as well, and maybe move on their next gen Lithium Ion battery acquisition early.

The reality at the moment (and for the next two years)?  Lead Acid and Lithium batteries have their place, even during this transition period,  so examining your power use application closely  and matching it to the right mix of battery depth utilization (50% for lead acid 95% for lithium Ion next gen) and the number of charge cycles given the battery depth drawn down recommendations from vendors (6000-7000 charge cycles for lead acid @ 50% depth of charge vs. 8000-9000 cycles @ 95% depth charge in the case of Electrovaya).
